Since 1990 Johnstone Landscapes Ltd has designed and built gardens across the South West and South of England. We also work with clients and designers to realise their own designs and work with several Chelsea Gold and Best in Show designers.

We are active members of BALI.org and adhere to their guiding principles of what good landscaping and clear communication look like.

Inspired by his father, who was a keen and sensitive gardener, Andrew turned to landscaping early in on in life.  An unembarrassed aesthete, who was looking for a creative career, Andrew found that landscaping allowed him to fulfill his innate interest in his surroundings.  Andrew is passionate about creating landscapes both commercially and domestically that resonate with the landscape the project is to be part of.

Having moved from London to Wiltshire, Andrew was fortunate enough to be offered a project to build by Michael Balston (now of Balston Aigus).  Andrew had always admired his work and believes the aesthetic of that first Wiltshire project set the benchmark for everything he has gone on to do.

Andrew enjoys the challenge of reading a designer’s drawings and working with his team, making those drawings a reality for the client. Andrew has a broad wealth of experience gained over the past 40 years. He has a vast knowledge of plants and planting. He is passionate about working on heritage and period properties alongside fulfilling a ever increasing desire to see green infrastructure provide solutions for many future developments as well as thoroughly enjoying the challenge of working on more engineering based projects.
Andrew loves being outside as often as he can and when not developing and running the business, he enjoys working his loyal Working Cocker, Sonny.

Our philosophy is to be restorative in our work. We seek out environmentally positive methods to complete projects and highlight with clients the clear, beneficial impact this has. Many of our clients are interested in the positive legacy they are creating when building a garden or enhancing a landscape.

We continually collaborate, develop and seek the latest technology coupled with traditional methods to minimise a negative environmental impact and ensure a light a footprint as possible.

We are interested in the environment and promote the biodiversity around us and we strive to provide a healthy working environment for our hard working team.

We also challenge our suppliers and seek provenance on the materials we use. We are passionate about that supply chain and ensure, as far as we can, that we do not contribute unwittingly to unethical or unfairly sourced products.

We have, for 28 years, designed and built gardens that show our obsession with detail – be it in the planting, structural elements or the materials that we use. Everything we do supports the design and the realisation of that design.
